Mustard or Sarsaon / Rai / Raya / Raincha in hindi speaking belt, Raydo in Gujarat is the most important and prominent RABI oilseed crop of India which is grown in about 6.0 – 6.5 m ha area mainly in states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal.
Many other varities under Mustard are Yellow Sarson, brown Sarson, Toria, Brown Sarson, Canola are also cultivated in different geographies of North and eastern parts of India. 40-45% oil percentage is found in Mustard seed depending upon the hybrid/variety/climate etc. After recovering oil in the deoiled cake is a good source of nutrition in animal feed.
